Phenomenology and Religious Life
PhD Course.
Phenomenology of religion has for some time been associated with an outdated approach in religious studies. At the same time there has been a renewed interest for a phenomenological approach to religion within philosophy of religion. The aim of the course is to re-open the question of a phenomenological approach to the study of religion, by going back to Heidegger's early lecture course on Phenomenology of Religious Life, rather than current philosophical phenomenologies of religion (e.g., Marion). The course will consist of, first, a survey of the status of phenomenology of religion within religious studies, second, a discussion of Heidegger's lecture course, and third, reflections on the perspectives in reformulating a phenomenological approach to the study of religion. Ph.D.-students are encouraged to submit short papers related to the issue of the course.
